In the mid 1800’s Northern California was the place to be due to the discovery of gold in the Sacramento Area. Well over a hundred years have passed and Hmoodle has struck gold with the finding of Sacramento resident Malissa Moua. With a heart of gold, Malissa is a beauty whose love for fashion and modeling has given us the privilege of featuring her as Hmoole’s Miss March.
Hmoodle: Malissa, tell us a little about yourself.
Malissa: Hi Hmoodle, thank you so much for being generous enough to give me the opportunity of being Miss March. Modeling has always been a fun way for me to get away and live for the moment. In my 21 years, I’ve always been a little shy to cameras and found it hard to believe that I was capable of being beautiful. But thanks to the help of wonderful artists and photographers, I’ve learned how to be confident in myself and explore places I’ve would have looked past without a second glance. If there’s no thing I’ve learned from my time modeling for fun or to help support all the growing artists out there. Feeling beautiful is so much harder than being told you look beautiful. Because of wonderful movements like Hmoodle, I have had the chance to know and understand that beauty isn’t just a compliment. Beauty is accepting that each individual is unique and I’m glad to be a part of this experience. Thanks again Hmoodle!
Hmoodle: Is there anything you do to help you “get in the zone” before a shoot?
Malissa: To help me focused and “get in the zone” I remind myself that I look how I feel. If I want positive results from my photos I have to feel positive and confident. If I pose awkward or feel awkward most likely the photos are going to look awkward. Also, I look around for “pin-points” things that are centered and steady. They help me keep my gaze straight and focus so when I’m doing a pose for certain looks may it be up, off to the side or down my eyes will have a focus and purpose and won’t be crazy looking like I’m lost.
Hmoodle: I noticed some of the photos from your Hmoodle shoot were taken out and about in public on the beautiful streets of Sacramento. Did you get any funny looks from bystanders?
Malissa: Funny looks? No, not that I noticed. If anything, we heard people commenting about being a model and positive feedback like “wow you look great”. I’m sure some people might have thought we were a little crazy since I was climbing around a bit. Other than that, nothing too harsh was said.
Hmoodle: Growing up in Sacramento, have you ever felt you wanted to be involved in politics?
Malissa: No. I believe the world will eventually work its way through the tough times. My job isn’t to dictate which way it should be for everyone. I think it’s best left to those who are more experienced and find it enjoyable.
Hmoodle: When did you first start modeling?
Malissa: I first started modeling when I was 17. I took some modeling classes and wanted to pursue L.A. Unfortunately the timing was off and it was left a dream. Ever since then, I’ve just been modeling here and there for fun, collaborations with photographers and fashion shoots.
Hmoodle: Any advice for a girl thinking of pursuing modeling?
Malissa: Yes, be confident in who you are and how you look. The only competition you have is with yourself to be better.
Hmoodle: Do you have any hobbies? What do you do for fun?
Malissa: I love playing sports. Volleyball is one of my favorites. I’m totally an outdoors girl. I love fishing! Flossing for big predators is my favorite. Aside from those things, I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends the most.
Hmoodle: A girl who actually likes fishing? Wow, what a catch. I haven’t met too many females who actually like fishing. Do you have any exciting fishing tales to tell? What is your greatest catch?
Malissa: My biggest catch to date is a King Salmon. This hog came in weighing around 20 lbs. It put up quite a fight. To my surprise, I managed to reel it in myself in 30 minutes.
Hmoodle: I have heard that you are also skilled in decorating cakes. Have you ever received any strange cake request?
Malissa: Plenty! (Laughs) The strangest request have been the “adult cakes”. They’re a lot fun to make and take your creativity to a whole different level. (Laughs again)
Hmoodle: That brings to mind the movie Fifty Shades of Grey. What did you think of the movie? Did the movie give you any ideas for your next “adult cake”?
Malissa: I think 50 shades was an ok movie. The erotic scenes were something different than the norm so it was interesting. The storyline was poorly performed. However, that’s just my personal opinion. (Laughs) Unfortunately no, the movie didn’t help much with cake ideas.
Hmoodle: If you had to pick a character from a movie, what character best reminds of you?
Malissa: That character would have to be Anastasia from one of the Disney movies. Trying to find herself from the ground up, and after all that searching, she found herself in the one person who was by her side for the whole journey. (Laughs) I guess you can say I’m a hopeless romantic.
Hmoodle: What would your ideal romantic date consist of?
Malissa: An evening in a cabin or a lake house with just me and my partner. Horseback riding in the evening. A homemade dinner for two. Deep conversations and dessert by the bonfire. Snuggling and watching a movie till the end of the night. I’m a simple gal. I don’t always need luxury to make my ideal date or fancy things to consider it quality time.
Hmoodle: What is your advice to our readers on how to keep that special someone in your life?
Malissa: Genuinely listen and understand your partner when they speak to you. Each partner should learn to compromise when they can’t agree. Compromising is the only way for both parties to win and end on a happy note. Most importantly, love, be righteous, because you care for them. Not because you expect something in return. You must grow your love to stay in love with in each other.
Hmoodle: Malissa, it’s been a great pleasure getting to know you. Thank you for gracing Hmoodle with your beauty this month, which happens to be your birth month if I am correct. I know you have some adult cakes to decorate. Do you have any last words for our readers?
Malissa: Have a great month of March, let’s make this the best month of the year! Thanks for the opportunity and your time Hmoodle
