For so many years, May Song Vang, widow of General Vang Pao, has been a key figure in the Hmong Community. She died Monday, August 5, 2013 battling cancer since 2005 at the University of California at Irvine Medical Center at the age of 62.
Born February 5, 1951, to Nhia Chou Moua and Yee Lee she later married to General Vang Pao in 1973. After Pathet Lao’s coup d’etat of the Royal Lao Government and seizing power of Laos, the commencement of the diaspora of the Hmongs from Laos were immediate and the Vang family were one of the very first to settle in the United States.
