A traditional Hmong funeral will be held for Gen. Vang Pao in Fresno, Calif., from Feb. 11 to 18, a representative of Minnesota’s Hmong community said Saturday. Then his body will be brought to Minnesota for a public viewing, Lee Pao Xiong said. A burial site hasn’t been chosen yet.
Vang died Thursday in Clovis, Calif., at age 81.
He fought with U.S. forces in his native Laos during the Vietnam War. After the war, he came to the United States, where he helped many Hmong get to the United States and settle into new lives.
California, Minnesota and Wisconsin have large Hmong communities.
