Recently I did a piece hyping the Minnesota return of DJ Heavygrinder, who was returning to Minnesota after a two year absence. The event was being billed as ChozenOne Productions “Red Carpet Event”, which was being held at Myth Night Club. I’ll get to that later.
If you aren’t familiar with DJ Heavygrinder, then you’re about to. She grew up in the Seattle area where she first fell in love with music. After doing some modeling, she finally made her way to Los Angeles. It was there she found her true love—DJing.
Heavygrinder has since become an International sensation, performing at venues all over the world. If you check her Myspace updates, it’s a new city every day that she is sharing her music with. Not only are crowds captivated by her music, but did I mention she’s gorgeous? Not a bad combination.
So when we heard she was coming to Minnesota, we definitely had to meet up with her. Luckily, I had the opportunity to meet and interview DJ Heavygrinder just before she took center stage at Myth and admittedly, I was pretty nervous.
Ryan: Let me be the first to welcome you back to Minnesota.
DJ HG: Thank you. It feels great to be back. I know the fans here appreciate the music.
Ryan: I don’t know if you checked but there is pretty good sized crowd out there.
DJ HG: That’s great. Its always nice to know you have the support of your friends and fans.
Ryan: You’ve been pretty busy touring. How has that been?
DJ HG: It keeps me busy doing the things that I love, so I can’t complain. Tired, but getting in front of that crowd will get me going.
Ryan: You’ve performed at Venues all over the world, do you have any favorites.
DJ HG: Honestly, I enjoy each venue because they all offer different opportunities. I don’t think there has been one that I have disliked too much.
Ryan: I actually have a question from a friend of mine. Her name is Mira, and she wants to know whether you’ve dealt with any discrimination in the business do to your race and being a female.
DJ HG: Not really. I was given an opportunity to prove myself and I think I did. I’ve run into any problems. Its been a great overall experience in this business.
Ryan: Well you’re about to take the stage. Any last words?
DJ HG: I hope the Minnesota fans will have as much fun as I am going to. I hope to bring lots of energy to this performance. I’m very happy to apart of this event.
Ryan: Thank you so much for this. I know they’re ready for you.
DJ HG: Thank you!
I must apologize. Some of the questions and answers couldn’t be heard clearly due to problems with the recording, but overall, this was a great interview. Plus, we also had to make the interview quick as she was getting ready to hit the stage.
I have only good things to say about DJ Heavygrinder. She was super sweet and fun to hang out with. Very approachable, which makes doing these types of pieces easy to do? Hope to do it again sometime.
When Heavygrinder finally took the stage, the Myth crowd gave her a great reaction. They were definitely there to see her and she didn’t seem to disappoint. The crowd was really into her performance from beginning to the end. A sign of a great artist.
If you weren’t able to attend the event, you can check out DJ Heavygrinder at: www.myspace.com/djheavygrinder or www.djheavygrinder.com. You can also support her by purchasing her album “Eternity”, which can be found online.
I have thank everyone at Myth as well as ChozenOne Prodcutions for allowing us to be apart of this event. We had a great time. A huge thank you goes to DJ Heavygrinder herself, as she was a pleasure to work with.
